‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ Review

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a dystopian action film directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) from a screenplay written by Michael Lesslie (Assassin’s Creed) and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) based on the 2020 novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. Featuring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, and Viola Davis; it is the fifth installment in The Hunger Games film series serving as a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012). Set during the 10th Hunger Games, 64 years before the events of the first film, the story follows a young Coriolanus Snow and how his relationship with the Hunger Games District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird leads him on a path to becoming the tyrannical leader of Panem we know.
