EXCLUSIVE: Yes, you read the title correctly! Grammy-winning artist J. Cole is confirmed to be executive producing the Creed III soundtrack with his label Dreamville Records. Yesterday during a Global Virtual Press Conference for the film, director and star Michael B. Jordan talked about how the music in the sequel is used to help the storytelling and confirmed that he was collaborating with J. Cole and Dreamville for the hip-hop infused soundtrack.
Yeah, Music was definitely a tool for storytelling that we wanted to evolve, … currently working on the soundtrack, we have Dreamville executive producing the soundtrack with J. Cole.– Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan and J. Cole have been friends for years having been spotted hanging out at numerous events together. In 2017, the famous duo was spotted trying to get into a Toronto nightclub. The following year the two were seen together at the BET Awards and NBA All-Star Game. Recently, Cole even playfully shouted out Jordan on his album The Off-Season using the actor, known for his solid physique and good looks, to state how loyal his wife is.
Don’t care if it’s Michael B. Jordan that’s calling my woman to f***, she ain’t gon’ never pick up…– J Cole, “100.mil,” The Off-Season
This isn’t J. Cole’s first time working on a Creed album. The North Carolina rapper previously made an appearance on Creed II: The Album performing the song “Shea Butter Baby” with Ari Lennox, another Dreamville act. It is currently unknown how many artists from Dreamville Records will feature on the soundtrack or if any outside artists or producers are also working on the project. The album is expected to release next spring ahead of the feature film.
Taking place several years after the previous movie, Creed III finds Adonis at the top of his career. He is enjoying the lifestyle he always imagined with his wife, Bianca, and daughter, Amara until a figure from his past returns looking to gain everything that Adonis has worked hard to attain. The ninth installment in the Rocky franchise, the film stars Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, Selenis Leyva, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Spence Moore II, Mila Davis-Kent and Jonathan Majors.
Creed III is due to hit theaters on March 3, 2023.
