Director David Yates has revealed that all five of the Fantastic Beasts films will take place in different cities. When asked by Entertainment Weekly if this city-hopping pattern will continue throughout all five films, Yates replied with a simple, “Yes.” He also noted that J.K. Rowling has already informed him about where the third film will be set. With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them being set in New York and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald mostly taking place in Paris, it leaves the question. What cities will the final three films be set in?

So, to which cities will the Fantastic Beasts films go next? Of course, Yates didn’t reveal the answers. But, over here at Flixfrog, our research has led us to believe that we know in what city the third film will take place.
“This is a global story, ultimately… And given that there’s a global audience for this, it’s all the more delightful to take the story to different parts of the world.”
Since Gellert Grindelwald was educated at Durmstrang Institute before being expelled for twisted, dark experiments and near-fatal attacks on his fellow students, we believe that the next film will be set majorly in Stockholm. Durmstrang Institute is the Scandinavian wizarding school notorious for prominently featuring the Dark Arts in its curriculum. The school is assumed to be located in the northernmost regions of either Norway or Sweden. However, Durmstrang, like other wizarding schools, likes to conceal its whereabouts so the other schools cannot steal their secrets. Therefore, the school may actually be located on any of the islands off the coast of Sweden and Finland. Their arrival to Hogwarts by ship implies that Durmstrang is somewhere at the seaside or by some river or major lake. This is backed up by the fact that the school is located in Southern Scandinavia on the Wizarding Schools map released by Pottermore.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and is the most populous city in Scandinavia. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. It’s also the cultural, media, political, and economic center of Sweden. This fits the same modus operandi as the cities of the first two films. This would be the perfect backdrop for the Untitled Third Fantastic Beasts film. Grindelwald could head there to gather more dark wizards to join his cause or get information from his former school. Maybe we will even get more information about the Karkaroff family. Time will tell if our guess is accurate.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald aims to take us back to the wizarding world on November 11, 2018. The third film is currently set to be released on November 20, 2020.
