American Fiction is a Black comedy-drama film written and directed by Cord Jefferson, in his feature-length directorial debut. Featuring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, and Keith David; the film is based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett. The story follows frustrated novelist and professor Thelonious “Monk” Ellison who jokingly writes an outlandishly stereotypical “Black” book out of spite for the genre, only for the book to receive widespread praise and adoration.
